A lithe, young man sat in one of the ugly, orange chairs that littered the waiting room and he was breath-taking. Long dark=blond hair hung in a loose tail over a slender pair of shoulders and straggled into ice-blue eyes and a pretty, fine boned face. He was dressed simply in a black t-shirt and snug jeans tucked into a pair of worn, black leather boots. A large, fluffy, brown tabby with a white face, belly, and paws sat in the young man’s lap and looked up at him, meowing expectantly. He whispered something to the cat and scratched its ears. Poor guy, Alec could tell he was nervous, probably more so than the cat was.
“Dr. Logan!” Maggie hit him on the shoulder with a file folder.
“Right…”
Alec ran his fingers through his spiky, black hair and took a deep breath before opening the door to the waiting room.
“Mr. Black?"
The blond looked up cautiously. “Yes?”
Alec smiled and held his hand out to the young man. “I’m Dr. Logan, call me Alec.”
“Valen.” The blond replied quietly as he shifted so he could shake Alec’s hand. He tilted his head slightly toward the large ball of fluff in his arms. “This is Raiden, Rai for short.”
Alec perked at the cat’s name. “Like the Japanese god of thunder? Or like the guy from Metal Gear Solid 2?”
“Metal Gear Solid 2…” Valen said, looking a little embarrassed.
“Really?”
Valen shrugged. “I thought the character was cool, for a little while, at least.”
“It’s all right, I thought the same thing when I started that game, too.” Alec grinned as he held the door open for Valen. “Come on in.”
Two of the vet assistants stood in the hall whispering to each other as Alec and Valen headed down the hall to one of the empty exam rooms.
Alec glanced at them sternly. “Ladies, don’t you have work to do?”
“Sorry, Dr. Logan.” One of the girls nodded before they both scurried off. “Good luck!”
“What was that all about?” Valen asked as he set Rai on the exam table.
Alec sighed as he closed the door. “Don’t mind them. They get like this every time anyone cute comes into the office.”
Valen’s eyes widened slightly. “You think I’m cute?”
