Caelan bounced through the grass. He sat up and glanced around. Brinn should have been there by now. The pretty dark-haired vet tech stopped in the park everyday to feed the squirrels and he was late. Caelan thought about asking one of the other squirrels but it wasn’t like they would know. All the ‘normal’ squirrels ever talked about were nuts anyway. Sure, nuts were great but there was more to life than eating, sleeping and running from predators. Then again, Caelan wasn’t a typical squirrel. He was more of a were-squirrel.
Granted, being a shapeshifter wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. He could live in squirrel form all he wanted but the attraction wasn’t there. Caelan could look at all the squirrel tail he wanted but none of it turned him on. He liked more human guys but trying to find one that would be interested in a were-squirrel was easier said than done.
The last boyfriend he had didn’t react to well to the whole were-squirrel thing. Caelan sighed. There was a lot of screaming that time, in fact that’s why Caelan had given up on being human for a while. Being a squirrel was a whole lot easier even if he wasn’t getting laid. Well, that was until he saw Brinn, anyway.
“Sorry I’m late.”
Caelan glanced up to see Brinn sitting himself on his usual bench. Oh, he brought cashews and peanuts. Brinn was the best.
Most of the other squirrels kept there distance and waited until Brinn threw nuts in the grass. Of course, Caelan preferred the more direct approach and climbed up onto the bench and tapped Brinn on the leg. That scared most people off. They usually thought Caelan was rabid or something. Brinn didn’t seem to mind, though, and seemed to enjoy hand feeding him.
