Evan stood on the bar, trying to wrap the rack above him in Christmas lights. It would have been a whole lot easier if he was taller but there wasn’t much Evan could do about that. Well, he could have waited until Varian came back…but that would have cut into their shopping time and Evan didn’t want to do that.
Besides, he was almost done anyway. Evan just had to get the last strand up and everything was good to go. He balanced himself on one edge of the bar and reached over to get that last bit of the Christmas lights situated.
“Evan, what are you up to?”
“Hey, Varian.” Evan didn’t have to look. He recognized the low purr of his lover’s voice anywhere. “I’m hanging Christmas lights. Well, I was… just got done.”
Varian reached up to help him off the bar. “You should have waited for me. I would have helped.”
“I didn’t want to bother you.” Evan hopped down and brushed a bit of dark hair out of his eyes. “Besides, if we hang around too long Dante might find something else for us to do.”
“True.” Varian held up a plastic bag that had been slung over his wrist. “I do need to run upstairs and stick these in the freezer, though.”
“What’s in the bag?”
“Ice cream sandwiches.”
“Are they the chocolate cookie ones with the mint ice cream?”
Varian nodded. “I know they’re your favorites.”
“They are, thanks.” Evan hugged his lover tightly. “Come on, we can stop drop those off at your place then we can go.”
“Sounds good.” Varian sighed as he nuzzled Evan’s hair. “I still have no idea what to get for Kale… or your brother for that matter.”
“Don’t worry about it.” Evan tugged his lover toward the elevator. “If we absolutely can’t find anything, we’ll just say the gifts I got are from the both of us. Well, if you don’t mind giving Kale bunny slippers for Christmas.”
“You got Kale bunny slippers?” Varian stepped into the elevator with Evan and tapped the button for the third floor with his tail.
Evan just shrugged. “Kiki mauled his last pair so he needed some new ones.”
“Oooh.”
“I know it sounds a little weird but that’s what Kale likes to wear around the house.”
